Belron Canada Ltd.

In the beginning of 1999, Belron Canada Inc. hired one of the largest consulting firms in the world to plan and implement a Business Continuity Plan in the event of Y2K related problems.

Brodem was requested to facilitate the design and manage the implementation of the project after eight months of unsatisfactory results.

Brodem's unique process driven approach helped the management team workshop create a comprehensive plan within an eight hour working day.

The design proved quick and easy to implement. Parts of it were adapted by Belron's head office in the UK for deployment world wide.

Hydro Quebec Information Management

The Hydro Quebec purchasing department assembled a multi-disciplinary team to solve data reporting problems caused by the implementation of a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) computer system. Brodem's role was to:

  • Identify, document and analyze the purchasing processes affecting data.
  • Create the overall Quality Plan for the project.
  • Create and implement a statistically based quality assurance program to detect, correct and control data errors.
  • Facilitate corrective actions for the team.
  • Create and improve the team's procedures to use for the next Hydro Quebec information management project.

Project Leader: Susie St-Onge

The project team met an in some cases exceeded the original mandate.

The customized approach developed by Brodem was essential to the project. As well, the experience gained served as the pilot project for Brodem's Information Technology Optimization product.

Hydro Quebec Project Material and Transportation Services

This unit of Hydro Quebec evaluated serveral approaches for implementing ISO 9000. Brodem was chosen because of its unique process driven approach.

Apart from achieving registration on time, this was the first Hydro Quebec service unit to achieve ISO 9001:1994 Implementation 24 weeks
Hydro Quebec Transportation Services

The Transportation Services division purchases and maintains Hydro Quebec's 8500 vehicles. The recent implementation of an ERP system forced them to change their processes in order to adapt. The result was a 70% decrease in productivity and the loss of millions of dollars.

Brodem was asked to propose a way of correcting the situation.

Project Leader: Susie St-Onge

After documenting the processes and gathering data, Brodem facilitated a cross functional team using our Information Technology Optimization approach.

The result was:

  • a restructuring of authority and responsibilities
  • an elimination of non-value added steps in the ERP system
  • the re-design of parts inventory, procurement and control
  • a detailed implementation plan
  • buy-in from management and the unionized employees
  • 100% of the financial goals achieved within 4 weeks

Hydro Quebec Professional Services

The design and build of two small hydroelectric generating stations was given 100% to the private sector for the first time in Hydro Quebec's history. The goal was to reduce the cost and completion time while maintaining the Hydro Quebec standards.

Brodem was hired to conduct the "post-mortem" which was the first of its kind.

The post-mortem was conducted on the two projects using re-design techniques, ISO 9001:1994, ISO 10006 and internal HQ criteria. The results were:

  • A customized methodology for future post-mortems
  • Identification of opportunities for improvement
  • Recommendations for future projects
